CHENNAI: Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan has expressed displeasure over the conduct of legislature party leader Selvam, accusing him of using his position for selfish ends Addressing a marriage in Maduranthagam, Mr. Thirumavalavan said Dalit movements could not make progress because of the conduct of such leaders. He recalled that though the Mangalore constituency was allotted to him, he gave it up in favour of Mr. Selvam. “Malicious campaign”“He is carrying a malicious campaign against me because he could not get a party post,” Mr. Thirumavalavan said. Mr. Selvam was the general secretary of the party till Mr. Thirumavalavan reconstituted the organisation with new office-bearers. He was appointed general secretary of the Youth Pasarai. Mr. Selvam was earlier an associate of Puthiya Tamizhagam leader K. Krishnasamy. When they fell out, he joined the VCK. “He is upset that he could not get the general secretary post and has stopped attending all party functions. He did not participate in the Villupuram conference on June 27. He was also absent when we celebrated the birthday of Rettamalai Srinivasan. He did not visit Melavalavu to pay homage to the Dalits who fell prey to the caste Hindus. But, he promptly joins Thirumavalavan when he goes to meet the Chief Minister,” said a leader close to Mr. Thirumavalavan.
