Nuclear deal in the interest of country: Soz

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Water Resources Saifuddin Soz has said that the India-U.S. nuclear agreement is in the interest of the country and “it is unfortunate that some leaders and parties viewed it from a narrow sectarian angle.”

Referring to attempts to create doubts about the pact amongst Muslims, Mr. Soz, who is Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief, said the deal was not only advantageous to India, but was also going to bring prestige to the country. “Whatever is in India’s national interest it is in the interest of the Muslim community.”

The Minister hailed the statements of Darul Uloom, Deoband and Jamait-e-Ulema-e-Hind welcoming the nuclear agreement. Mr. Soz thanked the Samajwadi Party for its decision to support the United Progressive Alliance government on the deal.
