Nivedita rallies to post win

CHENNAI: Top-seed A.V. Nivedita (IOC) saved two match points to defeat D.V. Sneha (Indian Bank) 12-10, 7-11, 11-13, 8-11, 11-7, 13-11, 11-7 in an engrossing women’s quarterfinal match of the TTPPA 5th State-ranking table tennis tournament at Hall of TT, Nehru Stadium here on Saturday.

Earlier, Divya Rajaram shocked U.V. Agni (SDAT-AKG), the second seed, in the women’s pre-quarterfinals. However, Divya lost in the next round to K.K. Narmadha (Indian Bank).

Thrilling win

Amedia Consultants scored a last-ball one-wicket win over Bharath Group in the SSI Trophy here on Saturday. Off Spinner Ramesh Kumar’s six for 30 went in vain.

The scores: Bharath Group 156 in 30 overs (Prakash Chander four for 29) lost to Amedia Consultants 158 for nine in 30 overs (Ramesh Kumar six for 30).

Elixir Solutions 118 all out in 28 overs lost to Accenture 122 for one in 14.1 overs (Prashanth 41 not out).

Indian Bank stunned

Southern Railway stunned the defending champion, Indian Bank, in straight sets 25-16, 25-21, 25-19 in the men’s section of the senior division volleyball league championship on Friday.

Easy for DBAY

Don Bosco Annai Youth (DBAY) thumped Madras Sporting Union (MSU) 4-0 in the second semifinal of the Young Challengers State-level football tournament here on Saturday. Dilip Kumar bagged a hat-trick, and Sakthivel scored the other goal.
