Mahila sanghatane accuses BJP of poaching members from other parties GULBARGA: The Janawadi Mahila Sanghatane (JMS) has accused the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) of undermining the democratic ideals by inducing defections. Vice-president of the State unit of the JMS and central committee member of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) K.S. Vimala told presspersons here on Sunday that the BJP, which did not get a clear majority, was trying to gain majority in the Assembly by encouraging defection from other political parties. The JMS would launch a movement against these defectors in their constituencies and would mobilise people’s support to defeat them in the byelections, if they to contested, she said. The BJP had emerged the single largest party in the State using its financial clout and had set a dangerous trend, she added. Ms. Vimala, who was here to participate in the two-day training camp for the office-bearers of the JMS said that a byelection had been forced upon the voters, who had elected the defectors. “The resignation from their respective parties by the MLAs was an insult of the voters,” she said. CampaignMs. Vimala said that the JMS would launch an all-India campaign from August 9 to August 15 against communalism. Campaign against the rising incidents of female foeticide in the country would be launched in the third week of July DistressShe said that the farmers in the Hyderabad Karnataka region were in distress owing to the failure of rains, and the Government should immediately declare districts in the region as drought hit and take up drought relief activities.
