Belgaum: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa’s “unfair” decision and his “style of functioning” have come in for sharp criticism and protest from various Kannada groups on the issue concerning the site for the proposed Suvarna Vidhana Soudha (SVS) here. The Kannada groups, which met under the banner of Belgaum District Kannada Organisations’ Action Committee on Sunday, resolved that the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha should be built on the Vaccine Institute premises at Tilakwadi as had been decided and rejected the Chief Minister’s direction to the district administration to find another site. At its meeting, the committee members and representatives of Kannada organisations alleged that Mr. Yeddyurappa had “insulted” the decision of the high power committee comprising chairpersons of both the Houses and senior ministers appointed by the previous Government. His action amounted to refusing to respect the decision taken by the Government in which he was Deputy Chief Minister. He had also participated in the “bhoomi puja” performed by former Chief Minister H.D. Kumarswamy in August last, they said. But what was shocking was that Mr. Yeddyurappa had taken such a decision in a “closed door” meeting and because of pressure from some BJP MPs, MLAs and a few senior officials.
