UGC team reviews progress of works

The UGC team finds slackness in the utilisation of funds


BERHAMPUR: The authorities of Berhampur University submitted development proposals worth Rs. 84 crores to the University Grants Commission (UGC) team that visited the university.

A nine-member expert team from the UGC, led by R.P. Koushik, was on the university campus till Saturday on a three-day visit. The team interacted with the faculty and the administrative officials of the university.

They reviewed the progress of works taken up by the funds provided under the tenth plan.

The team of experts meant for reviewing the financial needs of the institution under the eleventh plan interacted with the departmental heads of the university.

The team found some slackness in the utilisation of funds provided under the tenth plan.

They wanted the university to introduce more professional courses and research projects related to the industrial needs. The team reviewed the library facility, examination pattern and implementation of administrative reforms in the university.

Detailed discussion

The team members had a detailed discussion with Vice-Chancellor Bijay Kumar Sahu regarding the needs of the university.

As per Mr. Sahu the vacancies of teaching faculties had to be filled up as early possible, which needed funding from the UGC. He also handed over a detailed report of different developmental projects that could be taken up in the university during the eleventh plan period.

During the tenth plan the UGC sanctioned a grant of Rs. 4crores for the university. Out of it, the university received Rs. 3.2 crores till now.
