Crucial meet: Delegates at the State executive meeting of the Telugu Desam Party in Khammam on Sunday.

KHAMMAM: Telugu Desam Polit Bureau member N. Harikrishna on Sunday said the party would be back in power after the next elections. Addressing the State executive of the party here, he said party president N. Chandra Babu Naidu would have yet another stint as Chief Minister of the State for correcting the follies of the Congress government that left the State in a lurch.

He pointed out that over 5,000 farmers had committed suicide during the past four years. Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy had failed to fulfil his promises including free power. The housewives were also angry and hurt as the LPG refill was costing Rs 750 in the black market. The youths, who pinned hopes on the Congress Government that promised two lakh jobs, were also unhappy.

He stated that some leaders had deserted the party after enjoying the limelight for a long time. The genuine cadres continued to work for the party and the leaders who shifted their loyalties would make no impact on the organization. The party owed its strength to the sacrifices of many workers.

‘On way out’

K. Yerran Naidu, Polit Bureau member and Parliamentary Party leader, said in his address that the Congress Government was on its way out. The party leaders who had already sensed the threat, were out to make hay while the sun shone. The party chief had been working for 14 hours a day for the sake of the State and the party.

The people could not be taken for granted. They were wise enough and hoped that they would make the right judgment. He said that the nuclear deal was not in the interest of the country. It would be opposed by all means by the party. The Congress had ditched the Left parties on the issue.

Ashok Gajapati Raju said Andhra Pradesh had emerged best state in terms of development in the country during the regime of the Telugu Desam Party. But today the situation was different. The Government had failed on many counts thanks to rampant corruption.

On desertions in the party he said such things were common before every crucial occasion. It was like the commanders running away before a war. As long as Telugu continued to be the language of the people in the State, the Telugu Desam party would have a great role to play, he said.
