Schools told to activate Junior Red Cross

Special Correspondent

TIRUPATTUR: The Sub-Collector, Tirupattur, Ashish Kumar, has asked all schools in the Tirupattur Education District to activate the Junior Red Cross (JRC) movement, since it inculcated the spirit of service among the students.

Speaking at the one-day refresher training course organised by the JRC, Tirupattur Education District for the headmasters of 177 high/higher secondary schools in the education district here on Saturday, Mr. Ashish Kumar stressed the need for the headmasters to teach the concepts of health, service and international friendship to the students.

R. Pitchai, Chief Educational Officer, urged the headmasters to give importance to the JRC as an associate educational activity in their schools.

He asked the headmasters to immediately furnish to the CEO’s office the exact particulars about the availability of free textbooks and bicycles for distribution to the students so that any surplus textbooks and bicycles could be re-distributed to schools, which are in shortage. July 15 should be celebrated as Education Development Day in all schools in a special manner, he said.

V. Sooriyanathan, District Education Officer, Tirupattur, who presided, said that JRC is an important associate educational activity of high and high schools, similar to the National Service Scheme, Scouts and the Red Ribbon Club.

The schools should conduct one special JRC camp every month. Two-day camps could also be conducted by clubbing four or five schools together.

As part of the training programme, the Tirupattur Education District JRC had arranged a demonstration of fire extinguishing and rescue activities by the Department of Fire and Rescue Services.
