Sirsa (Haryana): Five police men convicted of wrongful confinement, looting and trespass were awarded three-year rigorous imprisonment by a local court. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Alka Malik on Saturday also imposed a fine of Rs.2500 each in connection with a 1997 incident of police brutality. According to the prosecution, the convicts barged into the house of Jinda Ram, a resident of Elenabad in the district and forcibly picked him up under charges of indulging in gambling. They snatched away his money, kept him under illegal confinement and manhandled him.
