Widow, kids attempt suicide

Rampur (UP): A widow attempted suicide along with her seven children in front of the DSP office here, accusing the police of shoddy investigation into the murder of her husband.

Shakuntala of Bathuakathara village here and her children, all below 15 years of age, tried to immolate themselves before the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police on Saturday, police said.

Police, however, termed it an “immolation drama.” The woman was arrested and her children let off, they said.

The woman alleged that the police were hand in glove with the killers of her husband Khatar Singh, who was murdered on August 24, last year.

However, SP Veer Bahadur Singh said the case was investigated properly but due to the lack of cooperation on the part of the widow’s family the file was closed.
