It will be supplied at Rs. 30-a-kg State will incur an expenditure of Rs. 330 crore HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will formally launch the supply of red gram at subsidised prices through fair price shops at Kalwakurthy in Mahabubnagar district on Monday. The Government had decided to supply red gram at Rs. 30-a-kg against the existing market price in excess of Rs. 40 and palmolein oil at Rs. 45 costing about Rs. 60-a-litre in the open market. Red gram would be made available in the fair price shops in municipal corporations, major urban centres and districts and mandal headquarters initially and it would be extended to villages before the month end. The government is importing palmolein oil for supply at subsidised prices and the supply would commence as and when adequate stocks are positioned in the fair price shops. The decision to supply red gram and palmolein at subsidised prices would entail an additional expenditure of Rs. 330 crore to the State exchequer. The government is already incurring expenditure to the tune of Rs. 1,980 crore on account of supply of rice at Rs. 2-a- kilo to white ration card holders. This is expected to increase further following the enhancement of income ceiling from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 75,000 in urban areas and Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 60,000 in rural areas. The Chief Minister reviewed the arrangements for supply of red gram through fair price shops on Sunday.
