They are against commerce teachers handling the subject BANGALORE: The Bangalore University Economics Teachers’ Association is boycotting the evaluation of degree examinations in economics and has placed a list of demands before the university. The association demanded that the university stop deploying commerce teachers to teach economics and related subjects, representatives of the association told presspersons here on Saturday. They pointed out that commerce teachers were also being allowed to set question papers, evaluate and act as chief examiners. The teachers’ association said they would not resume evaluation work till their demands were met. “We have been saying this since last year and no action has been taken. Now, they say they are referring matter to the Inter-University Board and are asking us to resume evaluation. But we think that is eyewash,” says BUETA president M. Siddananda. Decision pendingMeanwhile, Bangalore University has issued a press release stating that facts are being misrepresented to the general public. “Power is vested with the Board of Studies concerned, which has made these decisions after due approval by the Academic Council and the Syndicate,” the release said. The matter was brought up at the recent Academic Council meeting and it was referred to the Karnataka State Inter-University Board. The decision is pending before the board, it added.
