LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Government-sponsored investors’ meet for wooing the industrialists to the State scheduled to be held in New Delhi on Monday has been postponed for an indefinite period. The decision was taken late on Saturday night. No official explanation was given for the postponement but the fast changing political scenario in the country and in Uttar Pradesh is said to have influenced the decision, which was taken at the highest level. Secretary, Information, Diwakar Tripathi confirmed that the meet has been postponed. The possibility of the investors’ meet being held was in the doldrums following the permission sought by the Central Bureau of Investigation from the Supreme Court to file chargesheet against the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mayawati in the Special CBI court at Lucknow. It was to have been the first investors’ meet to be hosted by the Bahujan Samaj Party Government since Ms. Mayawati assumed power in May 2007. All preparations had been made for the mega event and invites were sent to all the leading business houses and chambers of industry for what was to have been an interactive session between the prospective investors and the State officials, including the Chief Secretary, Atul Kumar Gupta. Following the postponement of the meeting efforts to hard sell U.P. as a favourite destination for entrepreneurs has suffered a setback. Barring the Rs. 40,000 crore investment proposed in the Noida to Ballia Ganga Expressway project no other major investment proposal has materialised.
