New housing scheme for urban poor in M.P.

Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan announced here on Sunday that Rs. 10,000 crore would be spent on development of urban areas in the State during the next five years.

The Chief Minister was addressing urban poor from the State capital and other parts of the State at a special function held at Lal Parade Grounds here to distribute ownership certificates for residential plots under the Mukhyamantri Ashraya Yojna. Mr. Chauhan said that the urban poor could now keep aside all their anxieties as they do not have to face eviction. Houses would be constructed for them in phases and all basic amenities would be provided in their residential areas, he added.

Mr. Chauhan said that besides spending on drinking water, sewerage, solid waste management and urban beautification, funds would also be allocated to provide basic facilities and improve the environment for those living in slum clusters.

He added that the State Government was committed to developing infrastructure and housing for the slum dwellers. Fifty thousand housing units are already being constructed, he pointed out.

As a token gesture, he distributed land ownership certificates to one urban poor from each district.
