JAIPUR: There seems to be a silver lining for Keoladeo National Park amidst dark clouds this monsoon. The indications are that the finances for the construction of the Govardhan canal are forthcoming -- though in a trickle. Two members of the Rajasthan Government’s Empowered Committee on Forest and Wildlife, V. P. Singh, MP and Rajpal Singh, who met Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje have informed The Hindu that during their meeting she made a commitment to release an initial amount of Rs.15 crores to start work on the Govardhan canal. “This is in tune with the promise the State had made to a visiting team of officials from the UNESCO to the park in March last to make efforts to conserve the wetland,” Mr. Rajpal Singh observed. Thanks to rains , the authorities on Saturday released 6,000 cubic feet water from Panchana dam. As the water level in the dam rose to the overflow level, two sluice gates of the dam were opened at 10 a.m.
