N-deal in nation’s interests: RSP(M)

Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: General secretary of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (Marxist) (RSP-M) Babu Divakaran said here on Sunday that the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal was imperative for the nation’s industrial and agricultural growth. He was inaugurating a State leadership conference of his party.

Mr. Divakaran said the deal had been prepared with a long-term perspective.

Instead of realising the nation’s needs, the Left parties were playing petty politics to oppose the deal, he said.

The decision of the Left to oppose the deal was, in fact, tantamount to an anti-national stand, he added.

He alleged that there was reason to believe that the Left decision to withdraw support with the aim of pulling down the UPA government had the agenda of helping the BJP come to power.

Campaigns planned

The RSP(M) will organise campaigns all over the State to expose the Left parties, he said.

Mr. Divakaran criticised the functioning of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in the State. “Ministers do not see eye to eye. Almost all decisions taken by the State government have proved to be anti-people,” he said.

He said the RSP(M) would organise strong demonstrations against the LDF rule. State leaders of the party P. Mohanan Pillai, Kottarakara N. Ramachandran and B. Krishnakumar spoke.
