Veerappa Moily on Sunday said the Congress was in safe hands with the ‘winning combination’ of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy as the Chief Minister and D. Srinivas as PCC president set to do the wonders. “Dr. Reddy as CLP leader and Mr. Srinivas as PCC chief had brought good luck to the Congress in 2004 elections and we expect a repeat during the elections for Lok Sabha and Assembly,” he told a well-attended meeting at Kalavani stadium after launching Visakha Welfare Federation. The federation is set up by Rajya Sabha member T. Subbarami Reddy to take welfare programmes in 60 slums in the city to benefit six lakh people by organising mobile health clinics, eye surgeries and others services with his own funds. Union Minister for Urban Development S. Jaipal Reddy, Mr. D. Srinivas, Minister for Transport Kanna Lakshminarayana, AICC secretary P. Sudhakar Reddy, film actors Brahmandam, Siva Reddy, MLAs T. Gurumurthy Reddy, K. Sitaramu, K. Dharmasri and others were present. Praising the performance of the State Government, Mr. Moily said Dr. Reddy had taken several revolutionary steps like announcing a subsidy of Rs.5,000 to farmers who had cleared their loans. He said UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had initiated trend-setting schemes like waiver of farmers’ loans to the tune of Rs.72,000 crores, National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme and Right to Information Act. Mr. Moily, who is the Chairman of Administrative Reforms Commission, said he had the privilege to head ARC after 49 years and said he was striving the entire government machinery to focus on citizens. He said the demographic advantage India had should not be allowed to turn a demographic disaster. Mr. Jaipal Reddy in his speech showered praises on Dr. Subbarami Reddy for taking up service activity among the slum-dwellers with his own funds.
