KCA signs MoU with MG University

Principal Correspondent

KOTTAYAM: The Kerala Cricket Association has signed a MoU with Mahatma Gandhi University to develop a world class cricket stadium — the MG university silver jubilee cricket stadium — on an eight acre plot at Athirampuzha.

The MoU was signed by KCA secretary T.C. Mathew and MG University registrar Prof. M.R. Unni in the presence of Vice-chancellor of MG University, Dr. Jancy James.

The KCA will meet the entire development cost for the stadium with state-of-the-art facility to hold national events like Ranji Trophy matches. The proposed stadium will have five turf wickets, facilities for nets, pavilion, dressing room, media centre, first aid room, lockers and stores. The total cost for building the stadium will be 2.5 crores. The KCA will be responsible for the construction and maintenance and upkeep of the stadium for 30 years which is extendable on mutual agreement. The ownership of the stadium will be with the university and there is neither a transfer of land or lease. KCA will be able to use the stadium only for cricketing activities after setting apart 190 days for the exclusive use of the university.

Besides regular coaching programmes, the KCA will conduct free coaching camps to the students of the university. A 15-member management committee headed by the Vice-chancellor will manage the entire activities of the stadium and its upkeep. The university and KCA will have seven members each in the committee out of which three will be nominees from the Kottayam Cricket Association. The design of the stadium will be completed in a month and the construction activities will commence soon.
