Bishop Heber College wins

Karaikudi: Bishop Heber College, Tiruchi, lifted the Optra Computer Trophy defeating Syed Ammal Engineering College, Ramanathapuram, by two wickets in the final of the State-level invitation Twenty-20 cricket tournament at Karaikudi on Sunday.

The scores (Final): Syed Ammal Engineering College 141 for seven in 20 overs (Gnana Prakasa Murthy 35) lost to Bishop Heber College, Tiruchi 142 for eight 19.5 overs ( Shanmugaraja 48).

St. Joseph’s triumphs

St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchi, lifted the KCAD Chidambara Nadar memorial Trophy defeating Nethaji Sports Club, Chennai, 4-3 via tie breaker in the final of the State-level football tournament at Sattur on Sunday.

In the tie-breaker, Jaffer Siddique, Ashok, Saravnakumar and Habib scored for St. Joseph’s College. Rajesh, Naresh and Panneer Selvam scored for Nethaji Club.

Murugan, Kannan shine

Murugan’s seven for 33 and K.T. Kannan’s unbeaten 72 helped Oliva CC carve out a four-wicket victory over Majestic Cups CC in the Canara Bank-Madurai DCA first division B Zone league at Madurai on Sunday.

The scored: Majestic Cups CC 159 in 37 overs (Gopi 44, Murugan seven for 33) lost to Oliva CC 163 for six in 37 overs (K.T. Kannan 72 not out).

Crescent CC 288 in 47.2 overs (Kumar 65, Muthukumar 47, Jeyachandran 40) bt KKRC 111 in 24.4 overs (Kumar four for 21).

Pykara Stars CC 273 in 48 overs (Seetharaman 92) bt Richard CC 122 in 26 overs.

Ganesh Babu wins

S. Ganesh Babu of Thiagarajar College won the open category title in the district-level open chess tournament at Madurai on Sunday.

A. Nagarjuna (Jaycees MHSS, Sivakasi) won the Virudhunagar District open chess tournament at Sivakasi on Sunday.

GVN College posts win

Sakthi Manikumar (86 runs and four for 18) and Muthaleef (84 and three for 12) helped GVN College Old Students Association defeat N.R.T. CC, Tirunelveli by 263 runs in the district-level Twenty-20 cricket tournament at Kovilpatti on Sunday.

The scores: GVN College Old Students Association 311 for three in 20 overs (Sakthi Manikumar 86, Muthaleef 84, Mani Bharathi 32, Venkatesh 34) bt NRT CC, Tirunelveli 48 (Sakthi Manikumar four for 18, Muthaleef three for 12); King’s Eleven, Kovilpatti 142 for seven in 20 overs (R. Selvaraj 36) bt Power Star CC 115 for four in 20 overs; Power CC 104 in 19.4 overs (S.
