Unchained Melodies: S.P. Balasubramanyam conducting the ‘Sunaada Vinodini’ programme . - In the cacophony that the present day idiot box has turned out to be, here is something that promises to come across as real mellifluous and soothing. S. P. Balasubramanyam is back and this time with a show that he hopes will turn out to be a milestone for his career. On the telly, he has been a trailblazer with musical presentations such as ‘Padalani Undi’ and ‘Padutha Theeyaga’ handling them with a sophistication that is hard to match. Now, he is shooting at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha with a live audience for ‘Sunaada Vinodini’, a musical programme for TTD’s S.V. Bhakti Channel. The show is for the age-group of 16 years to 22 years and will be on air during the prime time. “This is a special programme and will have classical, folk, devotional and respectable songs from the films,” says the celebrated singer. Instead of the usual limited invited audience, the recording has been kept open 400 to 500 persons and in all humility he says, “If they point out errors, I can correct them”. On participants of the show making it big, Balu speaks about designs of providence. “Destiny also plays a role. I dreamt of becoming an engineer but it made me what I am today”. Since the show was being made for Bhakti channel, a certain standard will be maintained and added will be the relief from pressures of TRP battles. After more than four decade long musical journey, the golden voice says, “I do not know if I am in the twilight zone or not but by His grace I have energy and am doing shows”. The channel has twelve 30 minute programmes depicting various ‘archana’, ‘puja’ and ‘kalyanam’ and started serials in the prime channel, CEO K.S. Sarma informs. SPB’s latest initiative will be the flagship show for the channel, he says. Get ready for some real musical entertainment. T.LALITH SINGH
