Electrician electrocuted

Special Correspondent

TAMBARAM: A 27-year-old man was electrocuted when he came in contact with a live wire inside an IT park under construction in Perungalathur on Saturday.

The victim, Kannan, hailing from Chidambaram in Cuddalore district, was an electrician working with a private firm that had taken a sub-contract from a leading company for installing fire alarms at the IT park, according to the Peerkankaranai police personnel.

Around 3 p.m., Kannan came into contact with a live wire and died on the spot even as his employer and other workers were witness to the incident.

Police arrested the contractor under Section 304 (a) of Indian Penal Code for causing death owing to negligence. This is not the first instance of a worker getting killed inside the IT park premises. In April 2007, a 24-year-old youth hailing from Orissa was killed and another injured when a temporary wall around a cement mixer plant collapsed on them.
