HYDERABAD: Motorists commuting on the main stretch from Rethibowli to Aramghar crossroads got respite from frequent gridlocks with Cyberabad traffic police banning movement of heavy goods vehicles, round-the-clock, with immediate effect. The move is also aimed at ensuring a smooth ride for those going towards Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad. The decision was taken after Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) P. Muniswamy and other officials inspected the road on Sunday and took stock of the situation. The busy road is one of the main routes to reach the international airport. The massive traffic jam on Saturday on this route was highlighted by The Hindu drawing the government’s attention, following which remedial measures were initiated. Presently, vehicles move at a snail’s pace due to the narrow road because of the construction of the P.V. Narasimha Rao Expressway along the Mehdipatnam-Aramghar stretch. Road spaceThis lack of space is leading to congestion and in turn disrupting traffic movement. Only one lorry can ply the road with the available road space. The ban will be enforced on the following routes: Nallagandla junction at BHEL to Narayanamma Engineering College at old Raidurg via Hyderabad Central University, Gachibowli ‘Y’ junction and Khajaguda junction; Attapur to Aramghar via Upparpally, Indra Reddy statue and Shivrampally; and Hafeezpet to Gachibowli via Kondapur and Kothaguda.
