Comfortable carriage: Cars on display at a stall at The Hindu Metroplus Lifestyle show in Madurai on Saturday. MADURAI: One of the star attractions of the third edition of ongoing The Hindu Metroplus Lifestyle Show is the automobile section. Featuring a range of vehicles across all the small, medium and luxury sections, electric two-wheelers and even banks to finance purchases, the auto section is the cynosure of all eyes at the expo. Maruti Suzuki has on offer eight models, ranging from the small car M800 Duo, which has the dual fuel option of petrol as well as LPG, the mid-sized Zen Estilo, to the top end variant of SX4. EnquiriesEnquiries had been good, said P. Bala Naga Ganesan, Team Leader of Solamalai Automobiles, with Alto and M 800 being oft-enquired models. “We are getting 35 enquires per day,” he added. High-end luxury sedan, Ford Fiesta, had also evoked some queries. The diesel variant is the most sought-after owing to the mileage aspect, said V. Manikandan of Akshya Ford. Toyota Innova, the luxury car that couples versatile space with world class safety making driving a pleasure, had caught the eye of many. Response this time was higher than the last year’s show, said S. Amal Raj of Anaamalais Toyota. Mahindra Scorpio M-Hawk and Renault Logan have also attracted a lot of queries. Both the diesel and petrol variants of Logan have received a lot of enquires, according to C. Muthupandy, Operations Manager, Susee Group of companies. He termed the show as a good platform for the automobile sector. Four-wheelers are not the only segment hogging the limelight in the auto section. With crude oil prices scaling dizzying heights, electric scooters have become a serious alternative. Velociti and Marathon, the two electric scooter models on display, have bagged two and five sales orders within the first two days of the show. Said R. Narayanan, Sales Manager, E.P. Meeran Motors: Marathon, a low speed vehicle with a maximum performance of only 30 km, had attracted the attention of women more. For six hours of charging, it could travel 100 km. Velociti, for which 50 km is the maximum speed, had attracted men more, he said. Public sector banks, State Bank of India and Indian Bank, have also put up stalls in the show to offer financing options. M. Kathiresan, AGM, Indian Bank, said that many high net worth individuals (HNIs) had come to the show. The bank usually offered Rs7.5 lakh. However, in eligible cases, it also offered as much as Rs.15 lakh, he said. S. Rajan, Marketing Executive, SBI, said that the stall had been getting 40 responses a day with at least 10 of them having potential for converting to actual loans.
