32 Tigers killed, says Colombo

B. Muralidhar Reddy

COLOMBO: The Sri Lankan military on Sunday claimed at least 32 LTTE cadre were killed in battles in the North in the past 24 hours.

The Defence Ministry said elite troops launched an attack at two well-fortified LTTE bunkers on the Mannar battlefront.

It said the soldiers had captured the two bunkers by “crushing fierce retaliation” and found bodies of seven LTTE cadre.

Action would be taken to hand over five bodies the soldiers recovered to the LTTE through ICRC.

Separately, in a report posted on its website, the LTTE alleged a 20-year-old woman student was injured in an Air Force attack in Mallavi on Saturday.

“At the same time, indiscriminate artillery fire towards Manthai east area yesterday and the day before damaged the Assistant Government Agent (AGA) building of Manthai East AGA division. Also damaged were Pandiyankulam MV School and another public building of a local NGO. Two houses of civilians were also damaged,” it said.
