Representative of Lanco says the mela has evoked tremendous response. VIJAYAWADA: The ongoing Passport Mela organised by the Regional Passport Office, Secunderabad and the Lanco Institute of General Humanitarian Trust since July 12 will conclude on Tuesday evening, amidst an increasing rush of students and elderly persons in the last days of the camp. Over 5,000 applications were sold by 6 p.m. on Monday, even as the passport authorities opened 12 counters for the general public and one counter for VIPs. In the morning hours, the pace of registration was rather slow in view of the candidates not coming out with properly filled applications. Some were found not having relevant documents to get passports issued to them. One in every seven registered passports was found to be invalid or not conforming to the full requirements of the procedure. In view of more demand likely to come from the public, two passport officials are expected to remain at the Passport Application and Collection Centre at Nagarjunanagar near Ramavarappadu from Wednesday so as to meet the needs of those seeking passports. Lanco representative B.V. Prasad said that the mela had evoked tremendous response from the public and all support was given to the candidates in making them submit their application forms without any problem. He said that the passport officials were very cooperative and came out with an assurance to meet the emerging demand even after the conclusion of the present camp at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium.
