NAMAKKAL: The district administration removed meat stalls in the Mettuputhur weekly market in Tiruchengode taluk recently. The action was taken after members of district-level consumer protection committee brought the issue to the notice of Collector U. Sagayam during a meeting of the committee held here recently. They complained that wastes from the meat stalls were being thrown in the open space, which posed serious threat to human health. A large number of people including school children were passing through the market, they said. The Collector directed the revenue officials in Tiruchengode taluk to remove the shops. The Collector had also instructed officials to install two plastic water tanks in Senthamangalam panchayat union primary school to provide drinking water to the students. The authorities concerned should ensure adequate supply of drinking water to the school. Following representations made during the meeting, the Collector also placed Nadukombai village assistant Ganesan under temporary suspension for allegedly committing irregularities. A postman was also placed under temporary suspension for allegedly not delivering widow pension to a woman. It was alleged that postman K.R. Subramaniam did not handover the widow pension to Varuthammal in Nadukombai in Namakkal taluk for the past 11 months. Following a complaint, the Collector the suspended the postman.
