Supply of red gram through fair price shops begins

NIZAMABAD: About 5 lakh white ration card holders in the district would get red gram at subsidised price of Rs.30 per kg, that is Rs.10 less than the market price.

To begin with, the facility became available in the municipal towns of Nizamabad, Armoor, Bodhan and Kamareddy and in 36 mandal headquarter towns on Monday.

Launching the scheme at 44th fair price shop in the town on Monday, Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu said the scheme would be extended to all villages in a week or ten days.

In response to the public demand and also in view of the increase in price of the essential commodities, the Government decided to supply red gram and also palm oil at subsidised rates, he said.

Joint Collector Neetu Prasad said steps were being taken to supply palm oil at the rate of Rs.45 per kg by the end of the month.

To issue white ration cards, new guidelines were framed and as per them all those who have below Rs.60,000 and Rs.75,000 annual income in rural and urban areas respectively would be eligible to get white ration cards, she explained.

She said permanent BPL centres would be set up in Nizamabad, Bodhan and Kamareddy divisional headquarters.

Mayor D. Sanjay said the Rs.2 kg rice scheme and supply of red gram and palm oil would be immensely helpful to the poor and needy.

Revenue Divisional Officer Narsing Rao, District Supplies Officer Roopkumar, Fair Price Shops Association district president Mohan and local Corporator Kesa Venu were also present.

Karimnagar Staff Reporter adds: Zilla Parishad chairman Arepalli Mohan launched the distribution of red gram at Rs. 30 per kg to white ration card holders at Anjani Mahila Cooperative Super Bazaar in Karimnagar town.

He said that all white ration card holders would get red gram at Rs. 30 per kg. and palm oil at Rs. 45 per litre at all fair price shops.

DCCB Chairman K. Ravinder Rao, Mayor D. Shankar, Deputy Mayor Md Sami, Karimnagar Agricultural Market Committee Chairman Y. Sunil Rao and others were also present.
