PUDUCHERRY: Prist University, Thanjavur, and Future Institute of Research in Science and Technology (FIRST) on Monday launched a collaborative programme in Puducherry. According to Managing Director of FIRST S. Nandagopal, the programme would consist of regular courses in management, science and arts and distance education mode. Chancellor of the university P. Murugesan said the demand for research in basic science courses was decreasing. “In 1,000 admissions for engineering, 60 to 70 per cent are for computer science. We will soon launch dual major programmes such as physics along with computer science,” he said.
