AIRING THEIR GRIEVANCES: Non-teaching staff of Pondicherry Engineering College holding talks with the principal in Puducherry on Monday. PUDUCHERRY: Several non-teaching staff of Pondicherry Engineering College staged a protest on Monday to demand pending promotions and pay revision. General Secretary of Pondicherry Engineering College Non-Teaching Staff Union P. Parasuraman said the college had not promoted several non-teaching staff for the last five years. “The college is planning to abolish nearly 80 posts which are awaiting continuation. There are around 300 non-teaching staff in the college,” he said. The staff held talks with college principal T.G. Palanivelu and put forward their demands. “We had demanded for pay revision but only half of the employees received it. Members of eight unions joined the protest,” he said. Mr. Parasuraman said the principal had agreed to include their demands for continuation of posts and revision of pay as part of the agenda for the general body meeting. “We have called for a protest on July 24. We will continue our agitation depending on the outcome of the general body meeting,” he said.
