No permission for firm to begin construction on Thimmaiah Road

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) not to permit Danish Publications or one of its directors, former Minister and Shivajinagar MLA R. Roshna Baig, from taking up any construction on land allotted to them on Thimmaiah Road. Justice Rammohan Reddy passed the interim order on a petition challenging the allotment of land to the publication. When the matter came up, the BBMP submitted that it had allotted land adjacent to the KSFC office on Thimmaiah Road to the publication. It said it had also executed a sale deed in favour of Mr. Roshan Baig. The petitioners opposed the BBMP action and urged the court to ensure that no construction was carried out on the site.

Disposed of

A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Deepak Verma and Justice A.S. Bopanna disposed of a public interest litigation (PIL) petition by J.K. Dasarathi, a physically challenged person, seeking implementation of the quota for the physically challenged to posts of first and second division assistants. Mr. Dasarathi said the Karnataka Public Service Commission had advertised for nearly 3,000 posts of FDA and SDA. However, adequate reservation to the physically challenged was not made. The Bench asked the Government to treat the petition as a representation and consider it as per the law.

Notice

A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Deepak Verma and Justice A.S. Bopanna on Monday ordered issue of notices to the Central and State Governments on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition by Transparency International Karnataka chapter, challenging a rule making it mandatory for the Lokayukta to obtain permission from the Government before prosecuting government officials.
