CPI plea to open PHC

Staff Reporter

PUDUKOTTAI: Members of Tirumayam taluk unit of the Communist Party of India marched from Meladhaniyam to Ponnamaravathy on Monday to press their five-point charter of demands.

Their demands, among other things, included a PHC at Meladhaniyam and re-construction of old group-houses in villages in and around Meladhaniyam, and introduction of town bus service between Pudukottai and Oliyamangalam via Kilikudi and Kudumiyanmalai villages.

Party Tirumayam taluk secretary A.L. Raju said that villagers were hard hit because of lack of bus service. He also said that the group houses constructed decades ago in villages including Vallalapatti, Soorapatti, Meladhaniyam Kamaraj Nagar and Idyapatti were in a dilapidated condition. CPI MLA from Alankudi S. Rajasekaran inaugurated the march.
