IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, who is also in charge of the Home Ministry, has asked Director-General of Police Y. Joykumar to probe cases of missing children suspected to have been abducted by militants for recruitment as child soldiers. The DGP has also been asked to look into charges of extortions and extra judicial killings levelled against police commandos. In the last few days, at least seven boys had been abducted by suspected militants. However, some days later two boys from Iroishemba had been handed over to their parents by a militant group. It said that in deference to international convention they were released. Earlier, the group claimed that the boys had come on their own to join the outfit. Parents and women activists have urged the militants to hand over the boys as they are minors and could not have taken the decision. ChargesThe Chief Minister had also taken a serious note of the charges levelled by a son of chief engineer of the Minor Irrigation Department against some police commandos.
