‘Sakshi’ management tenders public apology

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The management of the Telugu daily ‘Sakshi’ on Monday tendered an unconditional apology to the Christian community over publication of an objectionable photograph of Jesus Christ.

Admitting it as a “grave mistake” in an open apology published prominently, Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, chairman of Jagati Publishers which publishes the daily, said the entire ‘Sakshi’ family was taking responsibility for the incident. Efforts would be made to ensure that such incidents did not recur.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Council of Churches said dragging the issue into the political arena was unwarranted and the matter needed to be treated as closed with “repentance on the part of those responsible.”

The State unit of the Indian Dalit Christian Rights wanted Christians to observe restraint as the management had tendered public apologies for the incident.
