dated July 15, 1958: Welfare schemes

Srimathi Durgabai Deshmukh, Chairman of the Central Social Welfare Board, explained at a press conference in Bangalore on July 13 the satisfactory work the Board had done both at the Centre and at the State levels in causing the all round progress of women in the country. She said the Government of India had now decided to entrust to the Board the entire work connected with the welfare of women, children, the destitutes and the physically-handicapped people in all spheres of their development. For this purpose, the Centre had transferred a sum of over Rs. 5 crores to the Central Social Welfare Board.
