Rs. 98-lakh works for Attur estate
Staff Reporter
KARUR: Infrastructure development works would be taken up at the SIDCO Industrial Estate at Attur on the outskirts of Karur town at a cost of Rs. 98 lakh, according to Small and Medium Enterprises Department Secretary P. Selvam.
These include upgrade and strengthening of roads inside the estate, providing sodium vapour street lamps, construction of stormwater drains and culvert and putting up an arch and name boards.
Proposals for the work had been forwarded to the Centre for funds under the Integrated Infrastructure Development Scheme under which the Centre and the State government would contribute 40 per cent each while the beneficiary group would contribute the remaining 20 per cent, Mr. Selvam told media after inspecting the facilities at the estate recently.
Spread over 36.29 acres and developed in 1993, the estate has 95 plots and five sheds, all of which have been allotted to entrepreneurs. Two of the units were cent per cent export-oriented units. The main units manufacture HDPE monofilament fibre, knitted fabrics, furnishings and readymade garments. While 80 per cent of the units started are functional, efforts are under way to kickstart the rest. The annual turnover of the units is around Rs. 200 crore and they employ over 5,000.
