The announcement of Southern Railway that the Rameswaram-Chennai Sethu Express will leave Rameswaram at 8.15 p.m. is not convenient for commuters. I request the railway authorities to restore the original departure time of 5 p.m. at Rameswaram in the larger interest of the public. V. Rajendran, Paramakudi Calculate pulse in minute slabsThanks to BSNL for its recent letter addressed to its customers by the General Manager, Madurai, in which it is informed that landline rates had been reduced drastically. But it is surprising to note that a government undertaking is also releasing advertisements to this effect that are not clear (or misleading). A close reading of the letter reveals that basic pulse rates per minute had been increased. Previously, the rates were calculated per minute, and now it is two minutes. Automatically, the subscriber has to pay more for usage. For example, rate per 2 minutes is Rs. 1.20 and for 4 minutes it is Rs 2.40. Even if one talks for 3 minutes, he has to pay Rs. 2.40. Since the slab is not per minute, as in STD usage, it is counted as 2 minutes; 4 minutes; 6 minutes; and so on. I request the BSNL authorities to calculate the pulse/unit for 95 calls and BSNL mobiles in minute slabs like STD usage. This will encourage BSNL subscribers to use land and mobile phones without any fear or restriction. R.G. Samy,
Madurai
