upbeat: Actor Rajasekhar and his wife Jeevita after joining the Congress in Hyderabad. Also seen are PCC president D. Srinivas and Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. HYDERABAD: Telugu film star Rajasekhar said he was not averse to contesting the elections against Chiranjeevi, who is set to launch his political party next month. He, however, clarified that the decision on whether he should contest the elections at all should be taken by the Congress leadership. “Contesting the elections is not a personal decision and I will abide by whatever the Congress leadership wants me to do,” he told reporters, adding he had nothing personal against Mr. Chiranjeevi. Bringing down the curtains on the speculation about his plunge into politics, Mr Rajasekhar formally joined the Congress along with his actor wife Jeevita on Monday. He said he was already into social work through the Dr. Rajasekhar Charitable Trust and he joined politics to serve a wider section of the people. He chose to join the Congress as it was a secular a party championing the cause of the poor. Recalling that his family members were with the Congress since ages, Mr Rajasekhar said he thought it an opportune time to enter politics as the Congress under the leadership of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy initiated several programmes for the needy.“I want to contribute my bit to the Telugu people who encouraged me and bestowed recognition on me.”
