For MBBS, it is reduced from Rs.6 lakh to Rs.5 lakhs No change in the fee for the NRI quota CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government has decided to effect 16.67 per cent cut in the fee for MBBS, BDS and BAMS courses under the special management quota seats in the institutions in the State. According to an official spokesman, the fee for special management quota seats for MBBS has been reduced from Rs.6 lakh per year to Rs.5 lakh per year. For special management quota seats in BDS, the fee has been slashed from Rs.4.60 lakh to Rs. 3,83,318 per year. For the special management quota seats in the BAMS and BHMS courses, the fee has been reduced from Rs.2.20 lakh to Rs.1,83,326 per year. There has been no change in the fee for the NRI quota, which would be US $ 75,000 (Rs.7 lakh) per year for MBBS, $ 35,000 for the BDS course, and for BAMS and BHMS $ 15,000 per year. The spokesman said a marginal 15 per cent increase in the 50 per cent government quota seats fee enhanced last year had been retained. For 50 per cent government quota seats, the fee was revised last year from Rs.1 lakh to Rs.1.15 lakh for MBBS, Rs.55,000 to Rs.63,250 for BDS and Rs.35,000 to Rs.40,250 for BAMS and BHMS. For the 35 per cent management quota seats, the fee would remain Rs.3 lakh for MBBS, Rs.2.30 lakh for BDS and Rs.1.10 lakh for BAMS and BHMS. The spokesman said the fee had been reduced to provide medical education to the students of Punjab at a lower rate and also to attract students from other states. – PTI
