BHUBANESWAR: The City’s artists’ fraternity paid glowing tributes to eminent artist and former Orissa Lalit Kala Akademi (OLKA) president Asit Mukherjee who passed away at Cuttack on Saturday. At the Orissa Modern Art Gallery (OMAG) here, the Alumnae Association of the Bhubaneswar-based B.K.College of Art and Craft, Orissa Art Education Foundation (of which Mukherjee was the founder president) and OMAG convened a meeting of mourning that was attended by a large number of artists and students of art. Among them were OLKA president Jagadish Kanungo, former Orissa Sahitya Akademi secretary Indu Bhusan Kar, Dhauli College of Art and Craft principal Panchanan Samal, Alumnae Association general secretary Subrat Mallick, Ramahari Jena from the Rashtriya Lalit Kala Kendra, OMAG director Tarakant Parida and Orissa Samskruti Academy chairman Kedar Mishra. The meeting decided that the Art Foundation would bring out a souvenir in honour of the departed artist while the Alumnae Association would publish a monograph of Mukherjee. Similarly, OMAG would host an exhibition of his works – both paintings and book covers (in which he was a pioneer).
