MANGALORE: Two former students of the Mangalore-based Sandesha College of Fine Arts — Akshatha Baikady and Babitha — will jointly present a Bharatanatya performance at Town Hall on July 20.

The Bharatha Nrithya Sabha, an association of music teachers from Kasaragod district of Kerala, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka, has organised the programme. Principal of the fine arts college, Vani Rajagopal, will choreograph the programme.

While Babitha has done her masters in fine arts from Bharathidasan University’s Kalai Kaveri College of Fine Arts in Tamil Nadu, Akshatha has plans to do her post-graduation in Bharatanatya from the university beginning this year. Babitha is working as a lecturer in the Sandesha College of Fine Arts.

Versatile Akshatha has also been giving programmes in other forms of dance such as Kuchipudi and Odissi and has interest in folk arts as well. She has been taught by Sharadamani Shekhar, Kamala Bhat and Ullal Mohan Kumar, besides the choreographer of the forthcoming programme.

Babitha has had her training under Kudkani Vishwanath Rai, Ullal Mohan Kumar and has learnt music from Sanjeev Ullal. She has performed in Dubai and in many forums within the country.
