Rangasamy promises to allot funds for all schemes

PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Tuesday said the government would take steps to allot funds to implement all schemes in the Union Territory, including Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Financial Assistance scheme.

Distributing cash awards to top rankers of the SSLC, Matriculation and Higher Secondary examinations during the “Students’ Day” celebrations, he said none of the schemes would be withdrawn.

“In higher education, the government is paying the fees for students under the Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Financial Assistance scheme. We are providing funds to students for 2007-2008 and will soon allot the funds for 2008-2009. School uniforms are being given through the Anglo-French Textile mill, funds for which had been allotted,” he said. Exhorting students to study well and secure high marks, Mr. Rangasamy said more students should appear for the civil service examinations and emerge successful. The government was taking steps to improve the standard of life of the people and to develop Puducherry, he said, adding that quality education would be provided to develop good human resources.

Education Ministry M.O.H.F. Shahjahan referred to the growing demand for engineering and computer-based courses. “The Education Department has come up with the correct road map to development. Education will improve through computers, e-learning and modernisation,” he said.With Puducherry being bound by economic and geographical constraints for developing IT infrastructure, it was vital to create raw materials essential for the field, he said.

“We will work together to take education and the government on the path of modernisation,” he said.

Member of Legislative Assembly Om Sakthi Sekar said the schemes for students and education should be implemented efficiently.

Cash awards were given to the top three rank holders in Class X and XII examinations in government and private schools. Secretary of Education G.C. Joshi, Director of School Education G. Ragesh Chandra, Vice-Chairman of Puducherry Municipality A. Johnkumar and Councillor of Puducherry Municipality P. Velavan spoke.
