Fine Arts graduates continue agitation

Staff Correspondent

DHARWAD: The protest by Fine Arts graduates under the aegis of the Akhil Karnataka Chitrakala Padavidharara Sangha to press for their demands entered the fifth day here on Tuesday.

Demands

Their demands include steps to expedite the process of recruitment of art teachers in aided schools, relax the age limit for art teachers, to make appointment of art teachers mandatory in all government and aided primary and high schools, bring uniformity in education offered in private and government schools, and frame a separate curriculum for Fine Arts.

Solidarity

On Tuesday, Fine Arts graduates from Belgaum district expressed their solidarity with the protestors by staging a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Notification

The protesters have demanded that the Government issue a notification on the recruitment of 1,700 art teachers as most of the candidates are on the verge of exceeding the age limit.

Meanwhile, district-in-charge Minister Murugesh Nirani met the protestors on Tuesday and tried to convince them to withdraw their agitation.

Promise

The Minsiter promised them that he would take action on their demands.

However, the protestors refused to withdraw their protest.

On Monday, MLC Mohan Limbikai unsuccessfully tried to convince the protestors to end their fast.
