Promises made will be listed in manifesto: TDP

Kakinada: TDP Polit Bureau member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu on Tuesday said that the party was committed to stall the process of signing the civilian nuclear deal with the U.S.

Talking to newsmen here, Mr. Ramakrishnudu said that party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, as leader of the UNPA, would strive to make all those opposed to the deal reject it during the trust vote in Parliament.

Mr. Naidu was working out the strategy along with other UNPA leaders to foil attempts to bale out the UPA Government from the crisis. The TDP and its allies were at loss to understand why Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was so enthusiastic to sign the deal instead of containing inflation, which reached unprecedented levels.

As regards the State, Mr. Ramakrishnudu said the TDP was firmly committed to increasing budgetary allocations for welfare, giving subsidies and providing economic support to the poor. The TDP would include whatever promises made by Mr. Naidu during ‘Mee Kosam’ tour in its manifesto for the 2009 elections. Plans were afoot to fulfil the promises unlike the Congress, which proved to be a total failure. For instance, the economics of free rice scheme proposed by the TDP were worked out. This populist scheme could be sustained as long as the party got its priorities right.

Protests

Mr. Ramakrishnudu said the TDP was prepared to stage protests against the petroleum, chemical and petrochemical investment region planned between Visakhapatnam and Kakinada.

TDP leaders V. Venkateswara Rao and B. Bhaskar Rama Rao were among those present.
