Members walk out of council meeting
NAMAKKAL: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) members walked out of the Namakkal Municipal Council meeting held here on Tuesday in protest against the local body’s move to increase Property Tax. A resolution seeking approval of the council was brought in the meeting.
Strongly opposing the move, the AIADMK coun-cillors pointed out that the municipality had proposed to increase the tax by 25 per cent, which would burden the people in the town. The members led by K.P.P. Bhaskar walked out of the council hall. They also criticised the munic-ipal administration for the inordinate delay in supply-ing water to those who were given new connectio-ns. Council Chairman R. Selvaraj (DMK) presided. Commis-sioner M. Varadharaj and senior officials were present.
