Belgaum winter session in November or December Health check-up camp planned for legislators Bangalore: An 11-day budget session of the legislature will begin on July 17, and Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who holds the Finance portfolio, will present a revised State Budget for 2008-09 on the opening day. Legislative Assembly Speaker Jagadish Shettar told presspersons here on Tuesday that Mr. Yeddyurappa would present the budget at noon. During the session, Mr. Shettar said that the Government would table the Karnataka State Law University Bill, 2008 and the Karnataka Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2007 (for reconsideration). Asked about the growing absenteeism among legislators, the Speaker said he was in favour of punishing erring members, provided floor leaders of various parties accepted it. Expressing displeasure over Opposition criticism that he was not impartial, Mr. Shettar said, “For me, members sitting on both sides are equal, and I will prove it in the House.” It was not fair on his part to discuss such sensitive issues outside the Assembly. The winter session in Belgaum would be convened in either November or December. A health check-up camp would be organised for legislators at the Banquet Hall of the Vidhana Soudha during the budget session. A programme to train them in the rules of business and procedure of the House would be finalised shortly.
