TDB gears up for ‘vavu bali’

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) which met here on Tuesday has decided to make all arrangements for ‘vavu bali’ on August 1 in temples under its purview all over the State.

The board decided to deploy Deputy Commissioners to oversee arrangements at Thiruvallam, Varkala, Aruvikara, Shangumughom, Thirumullavaram in Kollam and Aluva.

Arrangements have also been made at Thrivikramangalam, Rameswaram in Neyyattinkara and Kadhinamkulam. More priests would be pressed into service at the Parasurama Temple at Thiruvallam to meet the rush.

As many as 15 chief priests and 13 associates would be posted in the temple and 12 chief priests on the banks of the river with 12 associates. Around 2,500 persons would be able to offer ‘bali’ at the six ‘bali mandapams’ at Thiruvallam and 250 persons on the bank of the river at a time. Tickets would be issued in advance at all major temples from July 24. Information centres too would be opened for the convenience of the devotees. The board would coordinate the functioning of the Health, Water Resources, Public Works and Revenue Departments. It would also coordinate with the Corporation, the police and the Kerala State Electricity Board to provide drinking water, power and other facilities to devotees. Board president C.K. Guptan, members K. Narayanan and P.K. Sumathy Kutty Amma as well as board officials too attended the meeting.
