Jute sector set to get boost

Srikakulam: With a view to setting up a jute park, preferably in Visakhapatnam, and help develop jute diversified products, train prospective entrepreneurs, supply raw material, help financial tie-up with banks and other financial institutions, the Andhra Pradesh Jute Development Centre (APJDC) was formed with the registered office at Visakhapatnam.

Giving details to media persons here on Tuesday, president of the Andhra Pradesh Federation of Industries B.V. Rama Rao said that investment in the unit would be of the order of Rs.100 crores (public private participation) of which Rs.40 crores would be the grant from the Union Ministry Textiles for development of infrastructure for the APJDC. Asserting that the APJDC would be first of its kind in the country, Mr. Rama Rao said the idea was to make provision for four big units and 80 to 90 small and medium entrepreneurs in the proposed jute park.

The APJDC would endeavour to develop jute clusters and centres in all parts of the State.
