Ongole decked up for Sonia’s visit

She will address about one lakh women of DWCRA groups

ONGOLE: Hectic arrangements are being made in ABM college grounds here for UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi to interact with about one lakh women belonging to DWCRA groups in Prakasam district on July 17.

Ms Gandhi will arrive from Nellore by helicopter and land in the stadium ground near old zilla parishad office. She will proceed to ABM College grounds by road.

A make-shift air-conditioned hall has come up in the college grounds for Ms Gandhi to interact with about 500 successful women and know their experiences in organizing women in self-help groups.

She will later address one lakh DWCRA women being brought from all corners of the district to Ongole.

A huge pandal with 20 enclosures is raised in the college grounds to accommodate one lakh chairs.

District Collector K. Devanand and Superintendent of Police V Navin Chand took Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel round the venue and explained the arrangements made for Ms Gandhi`s visit.

The town has been decked up for the visit of Ms Gandhi. Hoardings of Congress leaders have come up at all vantage points.

The road from old zilla parishad office to ABM College is being given a fresh coat .

The APSRTC has been entrusted with the task of transporting one lakh women by 1600 special buses. Police have made arrangements for traffic diversion.
