VIZIANAGARAM: Members of A.P. Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham, affiliated to Bharat Kisan Mazdoor Union, on Tuesday took out a rally from railway station to Collector’s Office and staged a dharna there demanding a special comprehensive legislation for them, implementation of Koneru Ranga Rao Committee recommendations in a time frame, pattas to the occupied government lands and 10 more other demands. Later, they submitted a memorandum to Administrative Officer (Revenue) Srinivasa Rao.

Talking to reporters at the dharna camp, CPI district council secretary P. Kameswara Rao said that the Chief Minister had ignored the said three main demands the party had represented to him in the past. He, however, had agreed to allot house-sites to the poor.

Survey sought

But in reality many an eligible BPL family in wards 30, 31 and 32 in the town were left out in the list, Mr. Kameswara Rao added. He demanded that the administration conducted a survey of forestlands occupied by tribals and the poor in plain areas and issued pattas under the Forest Act to them. He threatened to launch an agitation if the poor non-tribals living on the land for decades were vacated. He said that the Congress and the Telugu Desam cadres colluded in villages to ensure pattas to their men. Majority of beneficiaries under Indiramma programme had become bankrupt and they could not complete construction of houses due to soaring prices of cement and steel, he said. A. Ananda Rao, district general secretary of A.P. Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham, K. Venkata Rao, district president of Girijana Samakhya, B. Suri Babu (CPI) and others were present.
