Kayal SC in quarterfinals

Kayalpatnam: A half century by Abdeen and a useful 45 by Sahul helped host Kayal Sporting Club defeat youth Cricket Club Tuticorin by 32 runs and enter the quarterfinals of the district-level Twenty20 cricket tournament at Kayalpatnam on Tuesday.

The scores (pre-quarterfinals):

Kayal Sporting Club 201 for seven in 20 overs (Abdeen 50, Faizal 32, Sahul 45) bt Youth CC, Tuticorin, 169 in 18.3 overs (Rajesh 42, Sankar 42, Omer four for 16).

Ramesh Flowers CC, Tuticorin, 209 for eight in 20 overs (James Raj 65, Solayaraja 33 not out) bt SDR CC, Tuticorin, 87 in 19 overs.

Semifinalists spotted

Khajamian HSS (Tiruchi), Vel Udayar HSS (Thiruvarur), GHSS (Edamalaiyur) and PKD Matriculation HSS (Pollachi) entered the semifinal round robin league of the TV Sundaram Iyengar memorial Trophy state-level inter-school volleyball tournament organised by TVS HSS at Madurai on Tuesday.

The results (quarterfinals):

Khajamian HSS bt Sivakasi Nadar MHSS (Madurai) 25-4, 25-4; Vel Udayar HSS bt Virudhunagar Hindu Nadar HSS (Madurai) 27-29, 25-24, 25-14.

GHSS (Edamalaiyur) bt TVS HSS 25-15, 25-15; PKD MHSS (Pollachi) bt Elango Corporation HSS (Madurai) 25-15, 25-15.

Pre-quarterfinals: Khajamian HSS bt VKK Play Group school 21-18, 21-17.

TVS HSS bt Sethupathy HSS 25-19, 25-17.

PKD MHSS (Pollachi) bt Mahatma Montessori School, Surveyor Colony 25-6, 25-19.
